Why won't Adobe reader 9 work at all?

I tried to open a file from my email using adobe reader, but it wouldn't open. I thought it might work if I saved the file and then went into adobe reader and opened it from there. After I saved the file I tried to open Adobe reader but nothing happened. I then tried to reinstall Adobe reader 9, but it would not download! Please Help!l
