Nice, Sporty or Easy to Modify Cars for around $10 000 Used? 1st car?

I am from Canada, I am looking for cars for a girl that are nice, but kind of sporty, NO 2 seaters please, it's my first car, will have for a few years, so it needs to be reliable, Ill have some money set aside for modifications, and fixing or whatever is needed but not much, around 1000-2000$ I was looking at BMW 3 Series, there are used ones for around 9000-10000 but if something happened to go wrong or anything they're very expensive to fix.. I also like Skylines but same deal with them.
